Our students enjoy the 1st edition of the Agora Maths Challenge

On 3 June, Agora Sant Cugat International School celebrated the 1st edition of the Agora Maths Challenge, a day created to enjoy Mathematics in a different way: through challenges, concentration, excitement and a great desire to learn.

In this first edition, 58 students from Primary 5 to ESO 4 took part in an experience designed to put their mathematical skills to the test, share learning with students from different stages and discover Mathematics through curiosity, logical thinking and creativity.

For the school, this first edition has been a very special starting point. The Agora Maths Challenge was created with the aim of becoming the first of many mathematical competitions and with the hope of growing in the coming years, bringing together students from other Agora schools too.

During the morning, students faced different mathematical challenges adapted to their stage. There were moments of great concentration, some nerves and, above all, a strong desire to take part in an experience designed especially for them. As one Primary student shared:

“It was a day full of concentration, intensity and emotion. Finishing such an interesting exam with good feelings was very special.”

Beyond the results, the Agora Maths Challenge was an opportunity to remember that Mathematics can also be about play, challenge, curiosity and creativity. Solving a problem is not only about finding an answer: it is about thinking, trying different approaches, making mistakes, trying again and learning throughout the process.

After the most intense part of the morning, students had time to rest, share the experience with their classmates and enjoy a group activity. The day also included a magic show, which added a moment of surprise and excitement before the awards ceremony in the Auditori Josep Carreras.

During the final ceremony, as well as recognising the participants of the Agora Maths Challenge, the Proves Cangur diplomas were also awarded, highlighting our students’ effort, perseverance and mathematical talent throughout the year.

For many of them, the experience was a way to demonstrate everything they had learnt and to face new challenges with confidence:

“What I liked the most was being able to put everything we have learnt at school to the test.”

It was also a day for students from different year groups to share the same passion for learning, in an atmosphere of teamwork, motivation and enthusiasm for Mathematics.

At Agora Sant Cugat International School, we would like to congratulate all the students who took part in this first edition. Thank you for your attitude, your concentration and your willingness to take on new challenges.

And, of course, thank you to the Mathematics team for making this initiative possible. We hope this is only the beginning of many more editions of the Agora Maths Challenge.
