The Lady Mayoress of Sant Cugat welcomes the Erasmus+ students

The Lady Mayoress of Sant Cugat, Mireia Ingla, welcomes the Erasmus+ students who in met Agora Sant Cugat International School in February

Within the framework of the Erasmus+ ReACT! (Reanimating Cultural Treasure!) Project 2021 to 2023, 58 students from schools in Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, Norway and Spain, their 7 teachers and the ASCIS Sub-Director, were received by the Lady Mayoress of Sant Cugat, Mireia Ingla, and by the Councillor for Education, University and Historical Memory, Pilar Gorina, in the Auditorium of the Sant Cugat House of Culture in February.

Students met together from Sunday 5th to Friday 10th February 2023 and were hosted by Agora Sant Cugat International School.
At the reception, one of the students accompanied by their teacher, spoke as a representative of their school and shared how they approached the project.

At the end of the event, a family photo of the attendees was taken and the Lady Mayoress gave each participating school a book of photographs about the changes of Sant Cugat del Vallès from town to city over the years.

These international Secondary students share a common project: Redefine (“reanimate”) disused or in decline structures (“cultural treasure”) in the local environment (e.g. buildings, factories, train stations, bridges, building of historical heritage etc.) to give them a new meaning. Both the concept of the new sense and the material used to achieve this transformation is taken into account in the face of the surrounding community.

Each visit over the project’s two-year duration has had different ways to tackle the project. In Agora Sant Cugat International School, apart from the explanation of the structure and the concept they have chosen, students also investigated the issue of recycling material, what is done with this material and the mechanisms of a society when it faces this challenge.
