A unique education in Catalunya that unites the arts, critical thinking and university projection.
Agora Sant Cugat International School hosted a round table event yesterday with leading figures from the worlds of education, the arts and culture including Carme Ardid, Nina, Rosa and Josep Galindo and Maria Farriol. The round table focused on the role of the performing arts in today's education and the way it develops key skills for the personal, academic and professional future of young people.
During the round table, it stressed that the performing arts not only prepare future performers but also foster transversal skills such as expression, active listening, empathy and teamwork, useful in areas such as communication, education, psychology or cultural management.
International Baccalaureate specialising in Performing Arts - a programme to develop artistic talent
The event also served to present the new International Baccalaureate specialising in Performing Arts, a pioneering programme in Catalunya that combines the academic demands of the IB model with comprehensive artistic training in performance, music, communication and critical thinking, in collaboration with EÒLIA, the School of Dramatic Arts.
Josep Galindo, Director and Co-Founder of EÒLIA, the School of Dramatic Arts, stressed that in many countries the performing arts are closely linked to communication. Knowing how to express oneself, to argue and transmit what one knows or feels is a key skill in our professional and personal lives. “Many people know a lot of information but they don’t know how to communicate what they know; this is where the performing arts make the difference!” he said.
The speakers agreed that the performing arts offer a transversal learning framework that boosts self-confidence, empathy and critical thinking and highlighted how this training allows young people to explore their identity, connect with others and develop a more human and committed view of their environment.
Nina, an artist and vocal pedagogue, highlighted the learning derived from these disciplines - self-confidence, culture, empathy, perseverance and the ability to overcome challenges. She stressed that these values accompany young people throughout their lives, regardless of the professional path they choose.
A commitment to artistic and human training
With this new programme, Agora Sant Cugat International School consolidates its commitment to a comprehensive, innovative education connected to the real world. The International Baccalaureate in Performing Arts not only prepares students to access higher studies in artistic disciplines but also offers them a solid foundation to develop in any field that requires sensitivity, critical thinking and the ability to communicate with authenticity.
